About this course

This course unpicks the expected standards for writing at Key Stage 2, provides teaching tips and strategies to help children achieve these standards and explores the moderation process. Jointly delivered by English and Assessment advisers, the session aims to ensure Year 6 teachers are fully equipped to enable their children to achieve their potential in Key Stage 2 writing. This includes exploring verified exemplification materials of the different standards, which are used in moderator training, to build a strong understanding of the requirements of the KS2 TAF. We will also explain the process of external moderation and share the key messages that moderators receive. We will support Year 6 teachers to secure the best writing outcomes for all pupils whilst fostering a love for writing through a range of high-quality texts and teaching strategies. Practical approaches, resources, and insights are explored to empower teachers to nurture proficient and confident young writers.

  • learn to assess writing accurately, consistently and robustly

  • develop pupils’ writing choices and voices

  • explore exemplification materials to build secure understanding of the standards

  • understand the external moderation process
