Mixed-age Year 1 and 2 Sessions
Mixed-age Year 1&2
Session 1
In this video, you will see rehearsal of:
• skip counting with multiples of 2 along a number line and deriving missing multiples through a game called sneezing stick.
• number magnitude on a number line from 0 – 20 including missing numbers and useful benchmarks. Children rehearse using non-examples and giving reasons.
• the properties of 2D shapes including discussing what is the same and what is different about the given shapes.
Mixed-age Year 1 and 2
Session 2
In this video, you will see rehearsal of:
• skip counting with multiples of 2 along a number line including counting forwards and backwards with playing Hiccup Stick and then Imposter Number.
• number magnitude on a number line from 0 – 20 with missing numbers with a focus on using the language of ‘between’. This shows an example of a ‘going deeper’ opportunity.
• the properties of 2D shapes with a focus on using parts of shapes to predict the whole shape.
Mixed-age Year 1 and 2
Session 3
In this video, you will see rehearsal of:
• place value in 2-digit numbers including 1 more and 1 fewer, and 10 more and 10 fewer than a given number.
This shows an example of how a split screen could be used in a mixed-age class.
Mixed-age Year 1 and 2
Session 4
In this video, you will see rehearsal of:
• place value in 2-digit numbers including 1 more and 1 fewer, and 10 more and 10 fewer than a given number. Here the children are given opportunities to spot and correct mistakes.
This shows an example of how a split screen could be used in a mixed-age class.
Mixed-age Year 1 and 2
Session 5
In this video, you will see:
• an example of a ‘going deeper’ opportunity. Children are challenged to apply what they know about 0 - 20 to explore a 0 - 40 number track
