About this course

Calling Year 3 problem solving puzzlers, estimation extraordinaires and terrific team players! Each year we warmly welcome schools from across the UK to enter teams of four pupils into our annual HFL inter-school Year 3 Maths Challenge competition. There are 4 identical online heats to choose from, so schools can select the date and time which works best for them. The top scoring 20 teams will then be invited through to the final, which is also held online. Schools are welcome to enter more than one team. Please book one place per team of four pupils. Event guidance, hints and tips, as well as practice questions and answers, will be available to download prior to the event. Please email the primary maths team at [email protected] with any school-specific enquiries.

  • work in teams of four to solve challenging questions from across the maths curriculum

  • build confidence and resilience by tackling the questions against the clock

  • work collaboratively and apply different strategies to tackle multi-part questions

  • apply mathematical reasoning skills to range of different estimation contexts
