This course on self regulation and executive function will deepen practitioners’ understanding of these two closely connected concepts that sit at the heart of children’s learning, development and behaviour. Self regulation is a child’s developing ability to understand and manage their emotions, behaviour and responses to experiences, particularly in challenging or unfamiliar situations. Executive function refers to a set of cognitive processes that enable children to plan, focus attention, remember instructions and manage impulses. Through practical examples, the course will demonstrate how an understanding of self regulation and executive function can lead to more positive behaviour outcomes across the setting.
