About this course
This course supports teaching assistants in developing effective approaches to scaffolding learning for pupils in lower KS2 (Years 3 and 4). It explores how to break down tasks, model processes and use prompts, examples and structured supports that enable pupils to access learning while maintaining appropriate challenge. Participants will learn how to use purposeful questioning to deepen understanding, build independence and strengthen pupils’ metacognitive skills. The course also focuses on recognising when pupils are ready for support to be reduced and how to fade scaffolding so that learners take greater ownership of their work. Practical strategies, simple routines and classroom‑ready techniques will be shared to help TAs promote resilience, confidence and independence in maths. The session provides clear guidance that can be applied immediately to enhance day‑to‑day practice and improve progress for all LKS2 learners.
