About the project

The KS2 Reading Fluency Project is designed to swiftly improve reading fluency and comprehension of those pupils who have entered Year 4, 5 or Year 6 working below the expected standard in reading. The project strategies have been trialled extensively and have had a powerful effect on reading achievement for the vast majority of pupils, in turn supporting them to develop more positive views about reading.

Over the eight-week period, target pupils receive two 20 minute teacher-led sessions each week. Using the key strategies of modelled expert reading and echo reading, alongside challenging text selection, pupils have been shown to make dramatic progress across an eight-week intervention period. Pupils make on average 2 years and 3 months progress* during the intervention period and have a more positive relationship with books; are more enthusiastic, confident readers with an increased understanding and engagement with texts.
