About the project

The KS2 Reading Fluency Project is a research-led intervention proven to accelerate progress for pupils in Years 4–6 working below expected standards. Informed by strong evidence, including the EEF efficacy trial with HFL, it offers a structured, high impact approach to improving fluency, comprehension and confidence. Data shows pupils typically make an average of 2 yrs and 3 mths’ progress in comprehension (measured by YARC) and develop a more positive relationship with reading. Over the term, pupils take part in two 20 minute teacher led sessions each week, using modelled expert reading, echo reading and carefully chosen challenging texts. Teachers report confidence in teaching reading and greater use of effective fluency strategies across the curriculum. The project includes a sequenced CPD pathway aligned with EEF mechanisms, supporting teacher knowledge, motivation, technique and sustainable practice through launch training, a twilight session, consultancy and a final review.
