About this course

This three-session training resource and accompanying materials explores how inclusive teaching strategies to enable all learners, including those with SEND to access phonics teaching. It provides theory and practical examples of how evidence-based adaptive teaching strategies can be used to support learners with SEND to overcome barriers to learning.

The training comprises three sessions focused on:

  • Effective assessment
  • Foundational skills in reading
  • Delivering strong phonics teaching in the classroom

Within each session you will find videos and accompanying resources. A contents directory is available to help schools navigate their way through the training.

  • Assessment can help to precisely identify gaps and barriers in phonics acquisition.

  • Evidence-based strategies can be woven into everyday learning opportunities enabling pupils to develop the foundations for reading.

  • Accelerated progress in phonics can be achieved through spelling and writing.
