About this course

This two‑session course is designed for those new to schools or settings, new to Hertfordshire, or new to finance responsibilities. Across two webinars delivered on separate days, delegates will gain the key knowledge needed to confidently understand and oversee the financial operations within a school or setting.

The first session introduces the structure of school bank accounts, the schedule of financial delegation, the range of school funding and how purchases, salary costs and financial transactions are managed, including Consistent Financial Reporting requirements.

The second session explores the core principles of budgeting, the impact of changes within schools on financial planning, the purpose of budget monitoring and the importance of medium‑term financial forecasting. It also covers the financial calendar for Hertfordshire maintained schools to support accurate, timely reporting.

  • gain clarity on how funding is received and how suppliers and staff are paid in schools

  • learn how financial transactions are processed and reported at school level

  • understand the school’s purchase‑to‑pay policy and how it shapes financial processes

  • build confidence in the core principles that guide budgeting in schools or settings

  • recognise the key reporting requirement of Hertfordshire maintained schools
