About this course

Stepping into the role of leading a foundation subject is an exciting opportunity, but knowing where to start can feel daunting. This course is designed to investigate the essentials of effective subject leadership, ensuring you feel empowered to drive your subject forward. We will focus on identifying high-impact actions to ensure your time is spent where it matters most, and that actions lead to real classroom impact. We will consider current thinking and explore the latest Ofsted inspection toolkit. There will be opportunities to discuss curriculum mapping and how to develop robust progression documents, and consider how these lead to effective practice in your subject. Whatever foundation subject you are new to leading, you will leave this session with a practical toolkit and the clarity needed to lead with purpose.

  • consider what to prioritise as a subject leader, and where to spend your time

  • understand current recommendations and explore what the Ofsted toolkit says

  • explore the importance of robust curriculum mapping and progression information

  • understand the monitoring cycle and how actions can lead to classroom impact
