Starts Wednesday 20 January 2027

In-Person & Online

Is this the correct pathway for you?

This version of the Hertfordshire SENCO Induction Programme
is aimed at delegates who are new to the role as a SENCO.
If you are an experienced SENCO, but new to Hertfordshire,
or have moved to a new DSPL, please contact us.

About the project

Developed by HFL in partnership with Hertfordshire’s SEND Services, SEND Academy and DSPL managers, this fully funded SENCO induction programme is essential for Hertfordshire SENCOs. It provides practical advice and helpful tools that enable SENCOs to fulfil their day‑to‑day responsibilities, strengthen their strategic role and build a supportive professional network.

The programme encourages reflection on effective ways of working with leaders, staff, children and families, while exploring evidence‑based approaches to enhance high‑quality inclusive teaching.

Blending online learning, in‑person sessions and self‑directed study, the course is for SENCOs:

  • New to role: for SENCOs at the start of their journey
  • New to Hertfordshire for SENCOs bringing experience from a different local area
  • New to a DSPL (experienced Hertfordshire SENCOs moved to a new area).

This is not suitable for PVI colleagues who may wish to consider the Level 3 Certificate for SENCOs in the Early Years.

Hear what some of our previous delegates think..

I have developed a deeper understanding for the legal and statutory duties placed on schools and SENCO'S in relation to SEND.

I feel more confident and like I belong in Hertfordshire

I have felt a lot less overwhelmed, Nat has been so informative, understanding and really helped to shape my knowledge of SENCO life

Through the induction programme I have also come into contact with my DSPL and I am more confident asking for help and knowing where to go for support.

I have a more thorough understanding of SEND practice in Hertfordshire, what is available and who to contact.
