About this course

This is a mandatory entry level course for site staff where HCC is the duty holder. It is typically completed as part of initial induction and provides an overview of health and safety responsibilities, HCC expectations and practical tools for managing significant risks on school sites. The course promotes a sensible and proportionate approach to H&S, clarifying common misconceptions. Topics include working at height, COSHH, fire safety, manual handling, equipment use and inspection. The afternoon session includes the full Management of Asbestos training, enabling attendees to act as asbestos authorising officers on completion, removing the need to attend a separate asbestos course.

  • understand your role and responsibility for site related safety issues

  • identify key hazards and risks in a school environment

  • manage site H&S issues in a practical risk-based way

  • act as an asbestos authorising officer and be able to complete permission to work

  • know where to find H&S information and support
