About this course

This interactive staff meeting will explore what ‘rebalancing for calculation’ looks like in the primary classroom, drawing on the ESSENTIALMATHS sequencing and representations. Participants will see live modelling of example lesson segments, explore in-the-moment opportunities for pupils to explain and reason, and plan rehearsal for retention so that key ideas are revisited and secured over time. We will highlight how ESSENTIALMATHS resources, including pupil tasks and teacher guidance, can be used to structure practice, address common misconceptions and support all learners to develop efficient, flexible calculation strategies. This is the final of four ESSENTIALMATHS staff meetings being offered live over the 2026/27 academic year. The recording will also be made available on the platform afterwards. These sessions are free for schools with an ESSENTIALMATHS V2.0 subscription, using the booking code shared.
