About this course

This course provides information for designated safeguarding leads in early years settings with a focus on safe staffing. It explores how to develop and maintain a safe organisational culture, including safer recruitment practices and the ongoing monitoring of staff suitability.

Participants will gain an understanding of how to manage, monitor and respond to allegations against staff, including referral processes and expectations. The course explains how to work effectively with Hertfordshire statutory children’s services and local safeguarding partners, including the Local Authority Designated Officer and the Hertfordshire Prevent Manager.

Attendees are expected to have completed safeguarding and child protection training for early years prior to attending. This course forms Part 2 of a two part programme for early years designated safeguarding leads. To meet the DSL training requirements set out in the EYFS, Early Years DSL – Part 1: Child Protection should also be completed.

This training aligns with the criteria set out in paragraph 3 of Annex C in the EYFS for group and school-based providers.
