About this course

This course supports designated safeguarding leads in early years settings with key responsibilities such as building a safe organisational culture, safe recruitment, and managing allegations against staff. It also explains how to work effectively with Hertfordshire statutory children’s services, including the LADO and Prevent teams. Attendees should have completed safeguarding and child protection training in early years before joining this session.

  • recognise the role and responsibilities of the designated safeguarding lead (DSL) for safe staffing

  • how to build a safe organisational culture in your setting

  • feel confident in how the Hertfordshire Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) process works and what to expect when making a referral

  • how to liaise with other local statutory children's services agencies and with the local safeguarding partners to safeguard children
