About this course

This course provides a clear understanding of key risks and controls for COSHH and Legionella within school settings. It offers practical guidance on completing COSHH inventories and risk assessments and explains the operational controls required to manage legionella risks effectively.

Participants explore what Legionella is, why it is harmful, the conditions that allow it to grow, and how to carry out control regimes and record checks. The session also outlines relevant legal requirements, approved codes of practice and guidance.

Learners are asked to bring a current Legionella risk assessment to support the identification of key risks and application of the training. COSHH content covers how substances should be managed on site, where to find essential information and how to complete a compliant COSHH assessment for hazardous substances.

  • apply legionella control regimes effectively and maintain accurate required records

  • locate supporting documents to record checks and review legionella risks clearly

  • find and interpret substance information to support compliant COSHH assessment work

  • decide which substances require a COSHH assessment within school environments

  • access documents needed to complete a COSHH assessment for hazardous substances
