This session explores how to accurately identify starting points for pupils with SEND and use this information to plan meaningful, achievable small steps of progress. Grounded in Ofsted’s expectations that “teachers draw on their knowledge of pupils’ needs and starting points and an evidence-informed understanding of effective teaching and how pupils learn,” we will consider how to ‘track back’ when pupils are not secure in prior knowledge, adapting teaching practice precisely and ensuring that foundations are in place before moving forward.
