About this course

This session focuses on the role Teaching Assistants play in shaping high-quality interactions that drive learning and development in the early years. Drawing on the work of Julie Fisher and insights from the Oxford Brain Study, we will explore how consistent, responsive and intentional interactions can support children’s cognitive and emotional growth across the provision. The training will share strategies to set high expectations, introduce rich vocabulary and how well-structured challenge can be embedded into everyday practice. The training will consider the role of the TA gathering formative and summative assessment information to support a smooth transition to Year 1.

  • recognise the impact of high-quality interactions and nurturing relationships on early learning

  • understand the links between early brain development, emotions, focus attention and response to routines and transitions

  • share strategies to maintain high expectations, support vocabulary development, challenge and engagement across the provision

  • understand the role of the Teaching Assistant contributing to effective assessment practices through observation and dialogue to support an effective transition to Year 1
