This course will support delegates to use the Essential foundations for counting booklets, which are included within the resources, effectively to develop key conceptual understanding in the crucial early mathematical learning across their provision.
The training will help all the adults within settings to have a better understanding of key mathematical learning throughout Nursery and beyond as a transitional tool for early Reception learning, what the essential foundations for counting are, why they are so important and the progression through them. The progression through each concept initially encourages the children to notice, then to copy when working with adults and each other. Next, the children will extend what is provided to deepen their conceptual understanding, and finally they will create their own opportunities to apply their learning. Children will move flexibly through this progression in a rich provision as they apply their learning and understanding across the provision.
