Supporting pupils with SEND in the maths classroom

About this Course:

This training will consider the learning needs of pupils with SEND and how these can be identified and supported. Using the five-a-day framework from the EEF guidance report, “Special Educational Needs in Mainstream Schools”, we will explore ways to use these ‘best bets’ (all evidence-based) in the maths classroom. During the training, approaches will be modelled and practical ideas provided.

When pupils need additional support beyond the maths lessons, pre-teaching and extra practice are two ways that can help, but making them manageable can be challenging. In this training, we will provide ideas and resources to help meet this need.

Due to the learning needs of pupils with SEND, some pupil’s attainment will be behind their peers. Balancing meeting their needs and including them within class learning is hard. In this course, Tracking Back booklets will be provided, and case studies will be used to model how learning can be linked but tracked back for these pupils’ needs.

This face-to-face training provides an opportunity to build on the learning in the fully funded for Hertfordshire schools HFL and ISL Universal and Universal+ e-learning course.
