About this course
Many schools would like to include the Ancient Kingdom of Benin within their KS2 history curriculum but may feel they lack the subject knowledge to do so.
This eLearning module is the perfect introduction for teachers and subject leaders wanting to teach Benin, a West African Kingdom, in KS2 with confidence. We will walk you through key subject knowledge and suggest focuses for a sequence of lessons.
The eLearning course comprises of a webinar recording (around 2-hours), handout slides for making notes whilst you listen and full-size slides. There are also links to supporting resources including further videos and reading that teachers may find helpful.
The course will support teachers to develop their own subject knowledge, allowing them to explore this fascinating walled city, including the social structures and hierarchy, the highly developed and complex settlement structure and the rich artistic legacies of the period. We will signpost teachers to ideas and resources to enable them to plan engaging lessons that explore the structure of this community and its advanced way of life.
Carefully selecting and curating our content for history teaching, to better meet the needs of the school community, is one way to offer pupils both mirrors that build their sense of belonging and windows that give a richer view of the world we live in.
This course should take around 2 – 3 hours to complete. All users who purchase this by the 12th July 2024, will have until the 30th August 2024 to access and complete the training.
