Year 6 Writing Moderation Cluster - Stevenage

About this Course:

This session will provide Year 6 teachers with the opportunity to explore standards and expectations in writing, and to work together with colleagues, analysing where their pupils are currently attaining and identifying gaps and next steps.

Schools will have been notified on or around 17th May if they are to receive an external moderation visit this year. For teachers not receiving a moderation visit, these clusters will provide an excellent opportunity to discuss assessment judgements with colleagues to ensure consistency. Teachers who will be receiving a moderation visit may also find these beneficial to talk through their thinking ahead of the visit.

We recommend that teachers bring evidence of writing for at least 2 pupils from their class – typically, one who has been assessed as achieving the Expected Standard for KS2, and one who has been assessed as achieving Greater Depth. Teachers may also find it beneficial to bring the writing of any pupils whom they have found difficult to assess for any reason.

Further information will be sent to delegates in advance of the session.

Learning Outcomes:

  • increased confidence in understanding standards and expectations at end of Key Stage 2;
  • clear understanding of their own pupils’ current attainment and areas to focus on in teaching.
