A fully funded training and networking opportunity for teachers : Support for Hertfordshire schools with recently arrived learners from refugee backgrounds

About the course

Following the success of the Wellbeing Team’s previous training, we are delighted to be offering our funded training and networking opportunity for teachers from Hertfordshire schools with recently arrived children and families from refugee backgrounds. 

This training will support schools with new intake, those preparing for overseas arrivals and those with established communities. Schools are able to choose between 4 dates and attendance is fully funded by HCC but limited to a maximum of 2 colleagues for each establishment. 

Colleagues will:

• gain a better insight into the local picture in Hertfordshire
• hear good practice tips, suggestions and strategies from a range of expert presenters
• receive free training from the International Rescue Committee (IRC) and endorsed training from The Bell Foundation
• recognise the challenges experienced by pupils who are refugees and how schools/settings/trusts can respond and support
• learn about the local support available
• access quality resources
• discuss and share ideas with other schools with pupils from refugee backgrounds
• have the opportunity to ask the questions they need answered

Learning outcomes

• to introduce schools to quality resources and local services
• to support schools in building a network of support where they can benefit from each other’s experiences
• to provide an insight into the lived-experience of refugee children and consider the wellbeing and psychological impact of these experiences
• to increase awareness and knowledge about the backgrounds of refugee groups living in Hertfordshire
• to provide more knowledge of local and national resources
