Reflect and refine: next steps in formative assessment for ECTs

About this course:

An important part of effective professional development is reflection which then informs action planning to refine practice.

With formative assessment being a key focus in many schools, it is important that all teachers feel confident in the judicious and skilful use of AfL techniques to effectively create a responsive classroom.

This in-person, afternoon event is an opportunity for Early Career Teachers to build that confidence by looking back on their pedagogical journey and the role of assessment for learning within their classroom practice, before being guided on where to take it next, how to refine practice, and ideas for future development.

This surgery approach to training will involve discussions, adviser input, tips and tweaks, and the chance to share and network with other ECTs.

This course would pair well with our earlier ‘Essential assessment tools for teaching: the fundamentals of formative assessment’ course on the 18th October.

Learning outcomes:

  • Deepened understanding of key elements of formative practice;
  • Reflection on current practice;
  • Actions for use in the next academic year;
  • Confidence in formative assessment methods and when to use them.
