Induction for new SENCOs 2024

Venue (for Sessions 2 and 3): Hertfordshire Development Centre, Stevenage

About this course

This five-part blended course will provide new or aspiring SENCOs/INCOs with support and direction for their first steps in the role.

Exploration of the principles underpinning the SEND code of practice: 0-25 years, and the statutory duties of schools relating to SEND, will provide reassurance and understanding of the responsibilities placed on schools.

An introduction to Hertfordshire SEND services, including leaders of the specialist advice and support service and statutory SEND teams, will ensure new SENCOs develop a network of support and key contacts.

In addition, SENCO’s will begin to understand how to work effectively with teachers and teaching assistants to develop high-quality inclusive classroom practice.

Tools to strategically review current SEN provision will ensure a new SENCO can confidently begin to celebrate success and plan next steps and ensure good outcomes for learners with SEND.

Throughout the sessions, practical ideas and resources will be introduced to enable you to begin to evaluate provision mapping systems, run effective meetings with parents and professionals and ensure pupil and parent voice are captured as part of jointly agreed outcomes.
