New to the role of Teaching Assistant

About this course

This course provides an essential introduction to effective classroom practice for teaching assistants. During the course, delegates will explore the latest research on what inclusion looks like in the classroom and share good practice with colleagues from other schools. Practical strategies and techniques to scaffold support will be introduced that will be relevant to both primary and secondary teaching assistants. The course will develop delegates' skills and confidence in building positive working relationships with teachers and enable them to support pupils to make good progress.

This is a one day course which is split into morning and afternoon sessions, please see session times below:

Morning session - 10:00-11:30
Afternoon session - 12:30-14:00

Learning outcomes

  • explore the role and responsibilities of a Teaching Assistant (TA)
  • begin to consider what the research says about how TAs can help pupils make good progress
  • take away a selection of simple ideas and basic resources to use in the classroom
