Induction for new SENCOs - Spring 2025
About this course
Throughout this blended course, which includes two in-person sessions, our knowledgeable and approachable SEND advisers will provide strategic guidance and support to new SENCOs.
Exploration of the principles underpinning the current SEND code of practice will offer new SENCOs clarity on their day-to day role and the responsibilities of others, including teachers and governors.
SENCOs will build support networks, including essential contacts, and be introduced to Hertfordshire’s SEND services, including specialist advice and support.
In addition, SENCO’s will explore how to collaborate effectively with teachers and teaching assistants to review and develop high-quality inclusive classroom practice. Tools to strategically review SEN provision will be introduced and ensure any new SENCO can begin to celebrate success whilst planning next steps to ensure good outcomes for learners with SEND.
Practical resources will be shared to support critical evaluation of provision mapping systems, hold effective meetings with parents and professionals, and incorporate pupil and parent views into every aspect of their role.
