Be More Moderator - KS2

About this course:

The aim of this one day, online course is to give Year 6 teachers, Key Stage 2 leaders and primary English leaders the opportunity to receive exactly the same training that external moderators are given. This will ensure that delegates hear the same messages and study the same examples of writing at different standards, provided by the Standards & Testing Agency – thereby securing their own understanding of the requirements.

As part of the course, delegates will also be given the opportunity to put their assessment skills to the test, by taking the same standardisation exercise that moderators are required to pass.

Key materials will be shared electronically with delegates in advance of the course and during the day itself there will be opportunities for discussion, via live webinar and breakout rooms.

Secure teacher assessment is an essential for every teacher, directly feeding into the teaching and learning and feedback in the classroom.

This course will also be of use to Y5 teachers, and to KS3 English teachers and Heads of English, to support successful transition procedures.

Learning outcomes:

By attending this course, delegates will:

  • understand what is meant by ‘particular weakness’ and ‘independence’;
  •  have time to absorb and use national exemplification materials in order to fully understand the official ‘pupil can’ statements used in the KS2 TAF;
