About this course

This series of half-day workshops are specifically designed to support Year 6 practitioners to explore strategies and barriers to learning, to enable pupils to reach the expected standard in maths before they leave Key Stage 2.

If you are a Year 6 teacher looking to support your pupils to reach the expected standard in maths at the end of Key Stage 2, then this series of half day workshops is perfect for you! The series of 4 half-day workshops will run across the autumn and spring term. Practitioners will be supported with strategies, practical ideas and resources that can be used to enable pupils to secure the expected standard in maths.

Delegates will investigate the key mathematical concepts that pupils find tricky alongside being given practical strategies to develop thinking using mathematical resources in the classroom. High value learning will be pin pointed and teachers will be supported to help their pupils achieve the national standard and modify teaching to accelerate learning so that pupils achieve their potential.

By providing exemplifications of possible sequences of learning, teachers will develop further familiarity with the Year 6 content while considering how this could be taken back to their own classroom and tailored to suit the needs of their pupils.

Time in workshops will also be dedicated to analysis of practice SATs papers and discussion around priorities and planning will take place.

Session 1 key focus: Arithmetic and high value learning

Session 2 key focus: Planning and priorities based on class data

Session 3 key focus: Reasoning and proportional reasoning subject knowledge

Session 4 key focus: Making the most of the remaining time
