Year 6 maths challenge 2024

About this Maths Challenge:

Teams of four children from any school, within Hertfordshire, across the UK and overseas, are warmly welcomed to take part in this competition as all Heats and the Final will be held remotely. Teams will be able to join the competition from their own classrooms or school. 

The hour-long heats will comprise of a set of 4 equally-weighted rounds and will include maths questions from across the curriculum that teams have to work together to solve within a time limit.

Each team member will receive a certificate for taking part.

The top 20 scoring teams from across the heats will be invited to take part in the Grand Final. Every finalist will receive a certificate and the winners will receive the trophy, engraved with their school name, to display proudly in school until the next year’s Year 6 Mathematics Challenge takes place.  

Event guidance, hints and tips, as well as practice questions and answers, will be available to download prior to the event.

Learning Outcomes:

Pupils will work as a team of 4 to solve challenging questions from across the maths curriculum.

These will include:

  • questions with multiple parts
  • problems in context
  • visual estimation

You can choose from the following dates and times:

  • Heat 1 - Thursday 13th June 2024, 1.30pm - 2.30pm
  • Heat 2 - Thursday 13th June 2024, 3.30pm - 4.30pm
  • Heat 3 - Tuesday 2nd July 2024, 1.30pm - 2.30pm
  • Heat 4 - Tuesday 2nd July 2024, 3.30pm - 4.30pm

All Heats and the Final (to be held on Wednesday 10th July 2024 from 1.30pm - 3.00pm) will be held remotely.
