The school grounds can provide a wealth of opportunities for learning across the primary curriculum, particularly in science and geography.
This one day, face-to-face course blends practical, outdoor learning with opportunities to consider planning, sequencing and progression in primary science and geography.
Aimed at subject leaders, curriculum leaders and teachers involved in planning science and/or geography learning, this full day course will investigate and explore opportunities for outdoor learning in the school grounds, with a focus on the science and geography curriculum.
Learning outcomes:
Participants will have the opportunity to:
- Consider where the opportunities are for outdoor learning in the science and geography primary curriculum.
- Consider recent Ofsted publications with reference to practical, outdoor learning, including scientific enquiry and fieldwork.
- Explore how to plan for progression in learning when using the school grounds for geography and science.
- Undertake practical ideas for outdoor learning in a school grounds.
Additional information:
Delegates may wish to bring their mapping for science and/or geography to the session. Comfortable clothing suitable for working outdoors should be worn. Appropriate footwear, coats, hats etc may be needed, depending on the weather forecast.
