HFL Education Reading Fluency Showcase 2025

HFL Education are proud to present the Reading Fluency Showcase this November.

Drawing upon our experience of the hugely successful Reading Fluency Expo! Of 2022, we now bring you The Reading Fluency Showcase. This online exposition brings together some of the most prestigious names in the field of reading fluency instruction over the course of an afternoon. Together, we will explore the evidence-base surrounding reading fluency and share both ground-breaking research as well as curated, practical strategies for the primary and secondary classroom.

Drawing on almost a decade of experience in supporting hundreds of schools and thousands of pupils through the renowned Reading Fluency Project, we have pulled together an afternoon of insightful discussions, expert-led presentations, and practical workshops designed to deepen understanding and enhance classroom practice. This event will provide you with the latest research, proven instructional strategies, and real-world case studies to help unlock the potential of every reader in school. Whether you are new to fluency instruction or looking to refine your approach, the Reading Fluency Showcase promises to be an invaluable opportunity to learn from the very best in the field.

The showcase is presented by Kathy Roe. Kathy leads the Reading Fluency Project at HFL and is one of the key voices nationally on the topic of reading fluency instruction. She has authored blogs, articles and developed training and podcasts.

Keynote Speakers

Matt Goodfellow is an award-winning children’s poet whose powerful and emotional writing has captured the hearts of young readers and educators. His phenomenally successful verse novel The Final Year won the prestigious CLiPPA award in 2024. Matt is a passionate advocate for poetry in education. He works closely with schools, teachers, and literacy organisations to promote the vital role of poetry in developing literacy skills and emotional expression, cementing his place as one of the most influential voices in children's poetry today.

Christopher Such is a leading voice in evidence-based literacy education, known for his insightful research and practical contributions to reading fluency. As the author of The Art and Science of Teaching Primary Reading, he has played a crucial role in bridging the gap between academic research and classroom practice. Chris’ contributions have significantly shaped discussions around reading instruction in the UK and beyond.

Professor Tim Rasinski is widely regarded as the definitive voice in reading fluency instruction. His pioneering research has fundamentally shaped how fluency is understood and taught in classrooms worldwide. As professor emeritus of literacy education at Kent State University, his decades of scholarship have established fluency not just as a bridge between decoding and comprehension, but as a cornerstone of skilled reading itself.
