Primary Assessment Briefings

About this course

The termly Primary Assessment Briefings are an opportunity for primary leaders, specifically those leading on assessment, to receive timely information, reminders, and insight into wider assessment discussions and development. 

Each 1-hour session will be planned in light of the primary assessment calendar (see below for content outlines) with extra updates or discussions added as needed in response to changes in DfE messages or the assessment world. 

Session 1 – 4th November 2025

• Update on published data, Summer 2025
• Updates to IDSR and ASP
• Year 6 writing – key messages from summer moderation and autumn clusters
• The place of assessment in the new Ofsted framework  

 Session 2 – 25th February 2026

• Updates and changes regarding STA statutory assessment guidance
• Key actions for statutory assessment
• KS2 SATs
• applications for extra time
• access arrangements
• storing materials 
• Implications of the Curriculum and Assessment Review on assessment practices

Session 3 – 30th April 2026

• SATs – key reminders
• Statutory assessment – key actions inc. data submission
• Administering phonics screening check
• Key messages for KS2 external moderation
• Reporting to parents
• Transition
