Child protection for the designated safeguarding lead (DSL)
About this course
This course provides the basics of child protection and includes information on the referral process for child protection concerns, using assessment tools and contributing to child protection plans. It is expected that the lead safeguarding person has responsibility for making referrals and has accessed basic child protection previously.
This course is suitable for practitioners working in Early Years settings, including childminders. The pre-course requirements are that delegates have attended a basic introduction to child protection course within the past 4 years and have the role of designated person within their setting.
Learning outcomes
This course supports you to:
- understand your role and responsibilities as designated safeguarding lead for child protection
- update your awareness of significant harm and indicators of abuse
- know the procedure for reporting suspected abuse
- develop knowledge of the role of assessment, planning and review and recognise your role within multi-agency working
- have an understanding of relevant legislation and guidance relating to safeguarding children
- understand the process for reporting allegations made against staff
- develop knowledge of Herts Safeguarding Children Partnership (HSCP) procedures and website support
